Circle of Courage ll

Hello!

We will talk about circle of Courage again today. The four needs. What do you think? Do you think that these four needs sum it all up? Let's see what they mean to be exact.

Belonging
This site tells us that belonging is one of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. If you have never seen Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, please look at this link. You will hear about it all your life. Essentially, Maslow put our needs in order. He created a theory of what needs we have and put them in order.

Basic human needs for food, sleep, shelter, etc. come first. All of you who work in street outreach know that.

Then safety. Providing shelter, safe exits for our youth, etc. comes next.

Then belonging which he defines as love and being part of a group. Maslow rates the need to belong before the next ones of self-esteem and individual potential.

So we know that our youth need to belong. And we know that they might belong to groups that are not going to help them develop in a positive, successful way.

Do you have any youth in your programs that are not getting this need met? Or are getting it met in a negative way? (Peer pressure is another huge influence on our teens who need to belong.)

What do you think?

How do we help our youth meet this need to belong in a positive way? Any ideas?

Till tomorrow,
LA
