Hi Everyone!
Our focus this week is community. And how cool that John has added the links to this blog that show us our community.
First of all....what is community? We love to use that word in our field. It is even in our mission statement here at Oasis Center. To help youth grow, thrive and create positive change in their lives and in our community."
What does community mean? You know I am going to check wikepedia now...community
The definition there is:A community is a social group of organisms sharing an environment, normally with shared interests. In human communities, intent, belief, resources, preferences, needs, risks and a number of other conditions may be present and common, affecting the identity of the participants and their degree of cohesiveness.
The word community is derived from the Latin communitas (meaning the same), which is in turn derived from communis, which means "common, public, shared by all or many"[1].
So what does all that mean? We share an environment...

Youth
We share intent and beliefs as we work with youth to help them with safe exits and some tools to live more successfully. We are working with similar resources in our agencies. We share the resource of this blog and other positive inputs from SEN.
What else makes us a community?
And what are the benefits of community? Why is it more helpful to be a part of a group than alone?
This work is hard. It has its struggles and ups and downs. We need each other. We can encourage and help each other.
We welcome you to make use of this community blog for your needs. Is there anything you need to learn about? Anything you want to share?
This is your blog....your community.
